CQL partners with Liberty of Indiana
In May of 2005, Liberty Healthcare, a nationally-renowned healthcare management company in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, was chosen by the State of Indiana to manage the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center.
The Fort Wayne State Developmental Center was faced with a number of challenges. Over the years, the center had been repeatedly cited for violating state regulations regarding the health and safety of its residents. At one point it had nearly lost its ability to accept Medicaid dollars.
On October 24, 2005, Mitch Roob, Secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), announced that the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center will close on June 30, 2007.
Liberty of Indiana stepped in to correct issues of human rights policy and practice, monitor basic assurance, and staff training needs. They contracted with CQL to assist in these efforts, while residents were finding community placements. Follow-up assessments, based on CQL’s Personal Outcome Measures ®, are planned at six-month and one-year intervals to gauge the changes in people’s lives as they move from the facility to the community.
CQL’s broad array of evaluative and remedial tools, strategies, and procedures helped insure the continuing success of that operation. Ultimately, the day-to-day life of individuals at the Center will benefit from renewed, enhanced health, safety and security—always the main goal of all the work CQL does.
Working in partnership with Indiana Liberty, CQL continues to play an important role in helping maintain the gains made.
