Canadian Member joins the Board
CQL is pleased to introduce Christopher Park, a nationally recognized senior executive in the Canadian food service industry, as a new member of the CQL Board of Directors. Born and reared in London, UK, Mr. Park began a 35-year career with a diploma from the Westminster Hotel School in 1966. Within a short time, he had become manager of a 75,000-square-foot central commissary and distribution center for General Foods of Canada Limited’s restaurant businesses in British Columbia. Other assignments with General Foods included the design and erection of a major manufacturing facility in Toronto, Ontario.
As Director of Operations for Country Style Doughnuts Limited, a firm with over seventy stores from Nova Scotia through Alberta as well as Florida and Puerto Rico, he succeeded in turning a stagnating business into a successful one with a culture based on trust and open communication. Serving from 1989 to 1993 of vice President of Operations for Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada, he turned the $CDN275 million company’s losses of $CDN4 million per year to profitability within a year through changes in corporate culture; rejecting autocratic managerial control and fear in favor of respect for employee knowledge and effort brought about a rapid improvement in performance, motivation, and profitability.
Between 1993 and 1999 he consulted for such customers as Petro-Canada and the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Associations. In 1997, he joined the Board of Directors of Community Living Campbellford/Brighton, strongly advocating for the adoption of strict outcomes measures and accreditation In 2004, he joined the Board of Accreditation Ontario.
